After the summer break we organized another association excursion together.
Our destination: the city of Suhl, in the south of Thuringia. Due to its history as a location for armaments factories, the city council representatives declared Suhl a city of peace on February 14, 1991. Nevertheless, because of the centuries-long tradition of manufacturing weapons, the city calls itself the weapons town of Suhl in accordance with the city council resolution of 2005.
It is worth mentioning that during the Second World War forced laborers also worked here in the armaments industry, especially in weapons and vehicle production.
There are two nationally known museums in the city, the Weapons and Vehicle Museum.
We met early in the morning and drove together towards Suhl. The first item on the agenda of the day was the weapons museum. A plaque here commemorates the sad period of forced labor.
Nice employees opened the door for us early, so we were able to take a look at the very interesting and great exhibition across several floors at our leisure. The exhibits presented were impressive.
After a short stop at the Italian restaurant, where we treated ourselves to a coffee, we continued through the city to lunch at the “Gastmahl des Meeres”. A restaurant that can definitely be recommended. Our seats were booked and the service was friendly and quick. Everyone enjoyed it really well and, refreshed, we went on to the vehicle museum.
Unimagined treasures from the motor world awaited us here. We stood excitedly in front of an impressive collection of motorcycles, mopeds, luxury vintage cars, bicycles, technology and curiosities. Everything was well maintained and shone with the splendor of their bodies.
We said goodbye in the late afternoon with the promise to meet again on the next trip.
We would like to thank everyone involved again, as well as the weapons and vehicle museum.
