Museum opening ceremony, May 8, 2024, Weimar

A long time ago, our association was invited to the opening of the exhibitions “Bauhaus and National Socialism” and “Museum Forced Labor”, in which our association took part with several members.

We had already worked with the curators for the traveling exhibition “Forced Labor in the Third Reich” in 2006/2007 and made our archive available. The new museum was designed using the material from this traveling exhibition. We were of course interested in how our material on “forced labor in the REIMAHG” was adopted and documented. An entire display case was dedicated to this story, which filled us with pride.

Gauleiter Sauckel once had his official residence in the historic building, the former Gauforum. He was responsible for the deportation of 13 million people from the occupied territories to the German Reich who were used for forced labor, 500,000 to Thuringia alone.
Now, symbolically after 79 years of the end of the war, the exhibition “Forced Labor in National Socialism” opened here on May 8th.

After the ceremony, we had the opportunity to talk to many friends and acquaintances and then view the new exhibition.
