We often have guided tours about the history of the former armaments factory “REIMAHG”, whether in the museum, around the Walpersberg or to the associated works. We always adapt to the wishes of visitors. This also applies to the announced visit from the USA on May 16th and 17th. The “Knee Deep Into History Battlefield Tours” association had already contacted us in 2023 and asked us to support them with their special tour through Thuringia.
The guests arrived in Frankfurt, from where they then traveled through Thuringia. The focus of the tour was the history of underground relocation during World War II. Of course, this topic also included the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora concentration camps, as well as the new exhibition on “Forced Labor in the Third Reich” in Weimar.
The tour also included a visit to the REIMAHG exhibition in the Kahla City Museum. We took the time to explain everything to the guests in an understandable and detailed manner. The weather played along that day, which is why we were able to take a guided tour around the Walpersberg. This combination was very well received by our guests! In the evening, we met for dinner at the Linzmühle, where the group stayed overnight. With lots of conversation and delicious food, we said our fondest farewells until the next day.
On this day we went to the visitor mine in Kamsdorf. Having been friends with the local club for many years, Henry took over the management, which he again designed very individually, which included the area used by the former “REIMAHG”. Afterwards we drove to Könitz to the Scherf bakery for coffee and cake. Strengthened, we then went on to visit the Leuchtenburg, which was the last planned sightseeing point of the day. However, everyone was still enthusiastic about visiting Griesson.
The group was so enthusiastic and impressed by the historical tour through Thuringia that they very much welcome further close cooperation with us and are planning a repeat or expansion of the tour for 2025. We are looking forward!
