Working visit to the Nohra Airfield, 4 July 2020

At the beginning of July 1945, the Soviet 8th Guard Army marched into Thuringia and remained, initially unplanned, here until 1992, when the Two-plus-Four Treaty was implemented.

This included the time period of dismantling and subsequent destruction of armaments companies, such as the “REIMAHG”.

Our association visited the association who documents the Nohra airfield as part of an exchange of information and we were warmly received by the chairman Lucas Pfannstiel. The exhibition on The Nohra airfield with the history of the 8th Guard Army was quite interesting and technically well structured. It is also regrettable here that this story, which lasted more than 50 years, is hardly of interest in Thuringia. In spite of everything, however, they can proudly show a very good visitor frequency. The association is very committed to preserving this piece of contemporary history.
In the subsequent exchange of experiences, we discovered that not only does the history of the 8th Guard Army unite us, but we also have many mutual friends and contacts, with a sprawling network. For the future, we plan joint projects and support in our association work.

At this point again a heartfelt thank you to Lucas and his association.
